REDUCED. A very beautiful and desirable Victorian Lava Cameo Brooch - made around 1860 or earlier -The cameo itself has been finely carved and has little freckles , pits, age marks in lava within the more than 150 year old limestone Lava . The age and condition are reflected in the price.
The cameo depicts a Roman lady beautifully done. The mount is very heavy Victorian Pinchbeck with fluted edge and ball decoration and a circular interlock structure setting on the back. the brooch measures 1 and 1/4" across [ 2.8 cms] - weighs a solid 11.5 gms - has a secure pin and C catch - very collectable . -
Antique Lava Cameos are rare and hard to come by. These close up, larger than life, pictures are part of the description.
After all the pictures were taken, I added a snap on, snap off gold plated bail, so you could wear it as a pendant! It is not necessary to snap off bail as it falls behind when you wear it as a brooch.
