So recently I've begun researching into this bike that I've owned for many years. It originally came out of the L.A. area and appears to have been fabricated at North American Aviation, which is the same company that built the P-51 Mustang, B-25 Mitchell, and a host of other very cool WWll aircraft.
It's been suggested by a few guys that this may be a very rare SOUTH BAY CZ custom build from back in the day. Here on the west coast, there were two famous CZ dealerships; South Bay CZ and Mid-Valley CZ. Both of these shops were well connected with the Czechoslovakian CZ factory team and would routinely prepare the CZ works bikes for international competition while here in the USA.
Frame appears to be a highly custom centerport build with many modifications. In addition to the center port conversion on a FALTA cylinder, it sports lots of added & drilled strengthening gussets under tank & rear shock mount areas, to name a few. I'm assuming it started out life as a '74 red frame bike that someone painted black (why?), as you can see the red paint underneath some scratches in the current black paint. It does have a '73 swing arm. Check out the rear frame loop--made from much skinnier (lighter) tubing than stock along with a dual fender mount system. In all my years I've never seen (nor even heard of) any other CZ quite like this.
Engine is a well built '73 250 with a (works?) Falta 250 center port top end (cylinder & head). Bike is surprisingly fast for a 250 anything, let alone a CZ 250 which we all know were not fast bikes in stock trim. Handling is light and nimble; really just superb.
Bike sports vintage chromoly 'Andres' bars which were very expensive back in the day (I paid for a set back in 1976--and that was A LOT of money back then). Has spring loaded modified CZ pegs for lengthened &  wider boot grip. Still wearing it's leather strapped aluminum tank (dent on left), custom built Falta style down pipe w/ unusual silencer, Falta longer travel front forks suspension & front wheel, rear shocks are finned Works Performance, CR Perfomance billet aluminum rear brake backing plate (appears to be the only modern touch), drilled for lightness chain guides and guards, chain roller added to frame for longer travel, opaque clear rear fender and YZ 125 front fender, GP high seat w/excellent foam & cover, Magura controls, aluminum folding shift lever, plastic airbox with Mikuni carb and custom built aluminum intake manifold, unusual rear sprocket, etc, etc, ---- just a really bitchin' race bike.
All soft bits like tires, grips, seat cover are excellent.
    HERE'
S AN EMAIL I RECENTLY RECEIVED. Hello cool cz.
I Would guess it started life as earlier than 1974. The frame is a pre 74.
I may have raced against this bike in 1974 at valley cycle park. If it is the same machine bike was b
ought from Pete Maly shop in Costa Mesa in 1973. Had the center port frame model done buy a local frame shop.
The north American hint was a clue for me as well. The owner did work for an aviation company refurbing old planes.
For retardant mods. Memory fading a bit, cant remember riders name.
    Good luck with the auction.
