We've been fortunate to have had several examples of this rare banknote over the years and this is one of the finest examples for the price we've ever offered. From an old-time collection of fine British and Commonwealth coins and currency,  Lincoln Gold & Coin is pleased to offer this banknote issued September 20, 1859 by the Bank of Western Canada. This is one of the most attractive banknotes issued during the Victorian era. Engraved by the American Banknote Company, the center vignette depicts Saint George slaying the dragon with a portrait of Prince Albert left and a seated Brittania to the right. As shown in our photographs, this bright 19th century Uniface banknote does display typical pinholes  normally encountered in currency of the period.  It also displays a lower margin separation along an old fold  as shown in our Photos. It's a very attractive note and would be a welcome addition to any collection. We photographed this note under natural lighting against a dark background to assist you with your evaluation. Additionally the photos zoom in quite well allowing you to view this note under extreme magnification. This seldom offered banknote was purchased in London decades ago and is just part of a larger collection of coins and currency available online and at our store in California. We are pleased to once again offer this beautiful note for your consideration.
In 2014, the Royal Canadian Mint struck a five dollar silver coin commemorating the design of Saint George and the Dragon based on this famous banknote.
